Weekend Preview: Johnstown at Aston

            This weekend, the Johnstown Tomahawks travel to the Aston Ice Works to take on the Aston Rebels. The Tomahawks lead the Rebels by two points for second place in the East Division and are four points behind the first place New Jersey Titans.

            Aston leads the season series 3-2, with all three of the Rebels victories coming at the Aston Ice Works. The Tomahawks carry the momentum in the series, after taking the most recent meetings in Johnstown Nov. 27 and 28.

            The Tomahawks took the first meeting in Johnstown Nov. 27, as Dalton Hunter’s goal with 5:25 left in regulation gave the Tomahawks a 4-3 victory. Alex Alger also added a goal and an assist, while Ryan Glander stopped 25 of 28 shots in the victory.

            Johnstown picked up the weekend sweep, scoring a team record eight goals against the Rebels Nov. 28. Luke Lynch picked up a first period hat trick, while 11 other Tomahawks found the score sheet at least one. Andrew Lindgren earned the victory, stopping 26 of 28 shots.

            Lynch leads the Tomahawks with five goals, while Kelly O’Brien has six assists against Aston. Lynch, O’Brien and Casey Linkenheld each have seven points in five games against the Rebels.

            Defenseman Kristofers Bindulis leads Aston with six points (one goal, five assists) against Johnstown, while five Rebels each have two goals against the Tomahawks this season. Goaltender Darion Hanson is 3-1-0 against the Tomahawks this season.

            Following this weekend’s games, the Tomahawks travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ext Saturday night. They return home to take on Kenai River Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. Face-off is set for 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 7 p.m. on Jan. 2.
