Weekend Preview: Johnstown Tomahawks at Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks

Oct 21, 2021

The Johnstown Tomahawks are headed out to Danbury, Connecticut for the first time this season to face off against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks for a two gamer this weekend. Note that the scheduled puck drop for both Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 is 8:00 PM.

The Tomahawks are coming off a weekend sweep against the Maine Nordiques, while the Jr. Hat Tricks are coming off a series split against the Jamestown Rebels, and a 5-1 loss in against the New Jersey Titans on Wednesday.

Rookie forward Jake Black has been leading the way for the Tomahawks, riding an 10 game point streak with 17 points (11G, 6A) in the young 2021-22 season. His linemates Sean Ramsay and Jacob Badal are also contributing big for the Tomahawks, combining for 18 points to start the season.

Despite being 2-7-2-0, the Jr. Hat Tricks are a force to be reckoned with, as their two wins have both been on home ice this season, along with an 87.5% penalty kill rating at Danbury Ice Arena.

“It’s a big weekend for us as we try to gain more consistency in our game and in our results,” said Head Coach Mike Letizia when asked about the upcoming games. “Anytime you go on the road it’s a challenge. Danbury plays a hard-nosed type of game, so we have to be ready to compete and battle for sure. I think for us, continuing to try and play to the identity that makes us successful is key and we have to look for more success on the road, as we only have one win in four true road games. It is going to be important for us to continue to take steps forward and eliminating steps backward especially in a very tight division.”

Next weekend, the Tomahawks will return to 1ST SUMMIT ARENA to close out October at home with two games against the New Jersey Titans, who will be making their first trip to Johnstown this season. These are two games fans won’t want to miss with Friday, October 29 being Halloween Theme Night and Saturday, October 30 being Breast Cancer Awareness Night Presented by Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center. The Tomahawks will be wearing special edition breast cancer jerseys for Saturday’s game, which will be auctioned off online via DASH Auctions.
