From the Intern’s Desk: The Anticipation

Feb 14, 2018

I’ve been working for the Tomahawks for the last month now, and it’s been amazing! It’s great coming into work and being around the sport I love. There’s only one thing I haven’t been able to experience yet: a home game.

Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24 will be my first two games I get to work as an intern. I had previously been to one home game before I started here, but I think it will be interesting to see the difference between being a fan and a staff member.

We have some great promotions set up for both nights, starting with Friday’s Faith and Family/Red Out Night for heart health awareness. I wrote feature stories about both sponsors, Laurel Highlands FCA and HealthCare First Credit Union, and I know they are both very excited about the festivities. Fans always love supporting a good cause and celebrating their faith, so it will be great to see everyone (hopefully dressed in red!) having a good time.

But the promotion I’m most excited for is the sixth annual Guns and Hoses game on Saturday night. Before the Tomahawks take the ice, local firefighters and police will play in a charity game with proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics. I was there when our department interviewed the two representatives for the event, and I could tell they always look forward to this event every season. It should be a great night for all involved and again will help support a good cause.

One thing I’ve learned very quickly in my time here is that Johnstown loves their hockey team. We have such a passionate fan base and we always appreciate their constant support. I can’t wait to see everyone come out and support the team! Let’s go Hawks!
