The Johnstown Tomahawks continue the weekend homestand tonight, welcoming the Springfield Jr. Blues to the War Memorial for the first time this season. The Tomahawks and Jr. Blues met for a three-game series earlier this season, with Springfield taking two of the three games.
The Tomahawks will meet five more times after this weekend, with the next three games being played in Springfield later this month. The final two meetings will take place in Johnstown March 7-8.
The Tomahawks
The Tomahawks come into tonight’s game, after earning a point in last night’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Keystone Ice Miners. The Tomahawks took a 2-0 lead, as Zach Zech and Trevor Recktenwald scored in the first period.
Keystone tied the game with a pair of goals early in the second period. Recktenwald tied the game with one second remaining in the second period. The Ice Miners tied the game at three 8:11 into the third period, before Joey Sofo scored the game-winner in the fifth round of the shootout.
Following tonight’s game, the Tomahawks and Jr. Blues close out their weekend series tomorrow afternoon. The Tomahawks then play Keystone in a home-and-home series next Friday and Saturday.
The Jr. Blues
Springfield makes the trip to Johnstown after dropping a pair of games to Soo last weekend. The Jr. Blues dropped the first game 5-3, before the Eagles completed the sweep with a 4-1 win on Saturday night. The Jr. Blues have lost four consecutive games, and are 3-6-1 in their last ten games.
North Division
In the other North Division game tonight, Janesville looks for the weekend sweep at Michigan. Last night, the Jets picked up a 5-2 win, scoring five unanswered goals after Michigan took a 2-0 lead in the second period.
