Tomahawks Sweep Jr. Blues with 4-2 Victory

            Trevor Recktenwald scored two goals, as the Johnstown Tomahawks swept the Springfield Jr. Blues 4-2 on Saturday night in Springfield, Ill. The Tomahawks earned six points in the weekend sweep, moving them into sole possession of fourth place in the North Division.

            Recketenwald converted on a two-on-one opportunity to give the Tomahawks a 1-0 lead 4:57 into the first period. Joe Drabin provided the pass that led to the power-play goal, the third in the last three games.

            Grant Meyer tied the game, scoring on the rebound from a Petr Kuznetsov goal at 10:58 of the first period. Trevor Stone added an assist on the goal.

            Filips Buncis regained the lead for the Tomahawks, scoring on a shot from the right circle 2:58 into the second period. Cam Bleck and Logan Hudson earned the assist on the first goal of the season for Buncis.

            Tanner Barnes extended the lead, as he took the rebound from a Josh Bowes shot and shot it into a wide open net at 11:29. Bleck provided the pass to Bowes, earning his second assist of the night.

            Recktenwald picked up his second of the game at 15:06, thanks to quick passes from Joe Drabin and Casey Linkenheld. Recktenwald now has four points in his last four games (2 goals, 2 assists).

            Anthony Mangano pulled the Jr. Blues back within two, scoring at 17:17 of the second period. Anthony Scarsella provided the assist, his fourth point in the last five games (2 goals, 2 assists).

            Ryan Bednard earned the win, stopping 20 of 22 shots. Niko Della Maggorie allowed 4 goals on 23 shots in the loss. The Tomahawks went 1-for-4 on the power-play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
