Tomahawks Fall to Titans, Drop Weekend Series

The Johnstown Tomahawks suffered a 4-2 loss Saturday night against the New Jersey Titans to give the Titans the weekend sweep on their home ice.

New Jersey got on the board first with a power play goal from Levente Kresztes 6:31 into Saturday night’s contest. Tomahawks captain Ryan Vellucci evened things up with a power play goal of his own six minutes later, tying the game at 1. Anthony Galante was awarded a penalty shot with just .4 seconds remaining in the first period. Despite missing his shot, the Tomahawks would begin the second period on the power play with the game tied at 1.

Ryan Panico gave the Tomahawks their first lead of the weekend as he scored 5:10 into the second period. Alex Walker assisted on the goal in his first game of the season, coming back from injury. New Jersey’s Ethan Wongus knotted the game back up for his club later in the period, putting twos across the board after 40 minutes.

Leo Schwartz gave New Jersey the lead 3:08 into the third with his second goal of the season and the Titans’ third of the game. Schwartz’s goal would go on to be the game winner, and Anthony Calafiore secured the 4-2 win for the Titans with an empty net goal with just 33 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Tomahawks are back on home ice at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA next weekend on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 against the Maine Nordiques. Tickets are available for purchase on Ticketmaster.com.
